Two days ago i did two new posts but apparently they have gotten distracted and become lost in the internet ether...because they certainly haven't reported for duty on bohemothontheloose have they?
I wonder where they went. I'll get some pics and stories from the last few weeks up soon.
Anyways. A quick summary of those two posts, with some new stuff added for good measure:
Things that make me smile:
* My recent trip to Splendour and Sydney. Reviewing the photographic evidence of the good times had by all
* Catching up with people I haven't seen in a long time. Sometimes i get distracted and forget how good it is to just make a phone call, send an email, meet for coffee or have a friend over for dinner. In Sydney I met up with Ali and Jo, two good good friends from INFANTS school! It was great.
* Work is going really well, my new boss is lovely. But still...
* We're having a Rubix Cube party at our house tonight! First time since moved in in March that all 4 housemates are home and available for a piss up and organised enough to have invited others over to do the same. Sadly Bec is still in Sydney (having lost a gall bladder) so won;t be in attendance. But there should be enough other characters around to entertain.
* picturing Stephen King "defacing" six of his own books in Dymocks in downtown Alice Springs. hehehe.
* Good news stories: Sarah Pearce has resigned; Kel is moving house; Penny's dog had a puppy (breaking news!) and so on.
* Today is Tristan's Birthday. It is also Tess's. Happy Birthday!
* The Waifs are coming to Alice!!!!!! 22 September for 'Bass in the Dust' festival. Also seeing John Butler in a week and a half, plus have tickets to a dinner with Alexis Wright!! damn i need to hurry up and finish 'Carpentaria', it's one of those rare books that is such a slow read but still enjoyable.
* On top of our party which will be ace of course, I have a full weekend - live music, art centre, markets, soccer (watching, not playing), finally get to see The Lives of Others!!!!!! stay tuned for review. perhaps i will start writing reviews.
* The Decembrists' album 'The Crane Wife'. Also makes me frown sometimes. Also loving old Cruel Sea, My Friend the Chocolate Cake, Mei Lai Swan (check her myspace!!!! do it!) and owning a 'proper copy' of Funeral.
Things that make me frown:
* Funnily enough, Aboriginals in Central Australia (and elsewhere) are still living in third world conditions. Aussie and international mining companies continue to inundate the CLC with applications for new Uranium mines in NT, following the Government's changing of the laws to allow more than 3 mines. Despite the National Intervention having a 5 year time-frame, the Government intends to take over leases of Aboriginal land for 99 years. Mal is still pretending he is doing it "for the children".
* I keep seeing fatigues-clad army folk wandering around Alice. Saw some down at Uluru a few weeks back too. I only ever see them doing touristy things, or sitting at cafes. Quite odd, and slightly amusing, until I remember why they are here. Apparently we were also meant to have a contingent of Mounties - yes, soldiers on horses - to patrol the town from August 1 when this law came to fruition:
* You can no longer drink in public in Alice Springs, except at the Telegraph Station (conveniently located near my house). Oh and in pubs.
* Soccer is over ;( We well and truly bottomed the competition. By that i mean the opposite of "topped", not anything rude.
