MY FINGER WAS IN THE EU...AND NOW, MY FINGER IS IN TURKEY!
hi all!
im in turkey and it is way cool. spent 5 or 6 days in Greece (lost count) and it was so great to be in europe! it kinda felt like home. and athens really reminded me of melbourne it was weird.
greece was so clean! so much fresh air! no poverty at all! excellent food! awesome travellers everywhere i made so many new friends! and i went out for the first time in 2 or so months and my god i am a cheap drunk now, which is lucky since europe is so damn expensive!
But now i am happily in toikey and the exhange rate is much better, in fact it's one for one - so no more maths for the mathematically challenged sarah!
I'm not going to put any photos up yet cos well i cant be bothered. but here is a story:
NUDITY
The last few days have had a common theme: nudity.
yesterday i ferried from santorini to mykonos and had the day to waste before getting the 11pm overnight ferry to samos, where i got a fast boat to Turkey. So at the Santorini port i ran into Frederic, a hilarious young frenchman who somewhat resembled kramer from seinfeld crossed with an cartoon arab man, who was doing the exact same itinerary as me.
When we got to Mykonos we hired a scooter and visited a whole lotta beaches. it was at one of these beaches that i discovered that Frederic is a NUDIST!!!!! Hahahaha.
So there we were, me completely clothed, him completely unclothed, lying on the deckchairs at this trashy beach who someone with a sense of humour has called 'Paradise', surrounded by nude gays and rich young coiffed Greeks from a von Dutch commercial.
The funniest thing is that at the time it didnt seem so odd. and it wasnt at all sleazy. just hilarious. There were heaps of people around and i just can;t get over how much Europeans love to get their gear off.
NUDITY PART 2
Today i got to Selcuk in Turkey and found out it was ladies day at the local Hamam, or Turkish bath. Paulina, a Finnish girl i am sharing a room with, and i went and it was an experience!
Basically you go in, semi nude, and sweat in this huge marble sauna for a few hours with all the middle aged Turkish and European women. Quite liberating. Then a Turkish woman (one of the staff, not just a random customer) gets you to lie on this big marble slab (very slippery i was worried i was gonna go flying) and she scrubs you with a scotch-brite type of thing. it's painful but very effective. I thought i was clean but no i definetaly was not. She got the last of India's filth out of my pores and it was amazing. then you get soaped up and have your thousandth shower and a massage and voila, smooth as a baby's bot bot.
The End.
