Oh yeh oh yeh oh yeh oh yeh!!Just yesterday I was thinking about how certain songs forever encapsulate certain times, characters or places in your life.
I made a mental list of examples:
Spotlight = mon and chris and overseasness
Blowers Daughter = every plane trip returning to Ireland last year + long solitary walks in Dublin
Rebellion (lies) = ant and mon in our irish living room
Lithium (plus most Nirvana songs) = the high school years
Town Called Malice = Spectrum (and Fantastico!)
High School Musical theme song = Angus's bedroom in London
Wild Horses = images of mon's dad on an exercise bike in the garage (no i have never actually witnessed this spectacle)
To her door = road tripping far north NSW
Ooh La = traipsing around Cuenca in Spain with mon, chris, angus and malin
There are so many more but you get the idea.
Paul Kelly is the soundtrack to roadtrips and living outside of a city in Australia. His latest album is the soundtrack to the past month of my life. He's great. He's amazing. Seeing him in Dublin last year with Mon and Ant and a 99.9% expat Aussie crowd made me simultaneously so homesick and so exhulted to be so far from home. I missed seeing him at splendour, but now he is making it up to me by coming to play a show in Alice Springs.
Not only that, but on the DAY AFTER MY BIRTHDAY!
So thanks Paul, see ya soon eh bro.
