Police are prepared to use water cannon for crowd control at the Bathurst 1000 motor race this weekend.
Assistant Commissioner Garry Dobson said police were prepared for all contingencies at the annual event, which will attract around 200,000 fans over the next four days.
He said security had been stepped up this year with several hundred police assigned to the operation, many of whom had honed their crowd control skills at last month's APEC summit in Sydney.
